I believe that the we did achieve this, but in some parts of the film there were some jump cuts, but at least we were able to get all the shots we needed for the film.
Have you followed the directions in the brief? (A character opens a door, crosses a room and sits down in the chair opposite another character. An exchange of dialogue occurs)
We did exactly followed this brief. Opposing to one of the characters in a film as such, the main characters which the camera mainly focuses on are already in the room (main location) at the start of the film. They get up from their chairs to open the door then exchange dialogue by returning from the door to their seating position at the start.
Have you used match-on action?
Yes, match-on action was used in the film. It's seen at 0:13 seconds, when on of the main characters gets out of his seat and walks direct to the door about to open it. Before the camera shot cuts to the outside of the door as he opens the door.
Can you explain what match-on action involves?
Match-on action involves by using a camera, showing an event that is about to occur before showing what has happened in that particular event or what's about to occur in the next shot.
Have you used shot/reverse shot?
We did use shot/reverse shot. This shot occurs at 0:43 seconds when Trent opens the door before the camera cuts to me and then it returns to looking at Trent as soon as he opens the door.
Can you explain what shot/reverse shot involves?
Shot/reverse basically involves editing two separate scenes so that when seeing the film, you can see that the shot immediately swaps between a scene, then to another which then swaps to that scene which has swapped.
Did you observe the 180 degree rule?
We did observe the 180 degree rule. This can be seen where we shooting a scene with dialogue where myself and Trent remained on opposite sides of the table.
Can you explain the 180 degree rule?
I believe that the 180 degree rule is where the camera is placed 180 degrees away from the character or more on a particular side of the invisible line of a shot filmed in a sequence e.g. filming a conversation.
What role/roles did you play in the making of the preliminary task? (e.g. filming, acting, equipment organisation etc.)
During the making of the preliminary task, my role was acting. But I did some help in researching the location for our film to take place.
How would you assess your contribution to the group?
I would say that my contribution to the group wasn't the best it could've been. For example; I didn't do much in our group apart from acting and location research. But as a group we did improve not much, but slightly near the end of the preliminary task getting the film and camera work done. Despite, the fact that we didn't get our film finished in terms of editing it together. I really feel that I should've contributed more to our group.
What have you learned from the process of making your preliminary film?
From the process of making our preliminary film, I have learned that time management and a lot of teamwork is important in a task like this. Which reflects on getting more done in our group to post onto the blog.
